Welcome to Turning Point West!
You have reached the website of Naomi Rabinowitz, MD, a physician trained in both Eastern and Western Medicine now practicing her unique blend of Natural Medicine in Longmont, Colorado. She is the founder, and now Medical Director Emeritus, of the renowned medical practice in New York City, Turning Point Acupuncture.

Dr. Rabinowitz founded Turning Point Acupuncture in 1985 to adapt Traditional Chinese Medicine to the needs of contemporary urbanites. She recognized that the extreme environment of our cities and our fast-paced culture exacted a huge physical, emotional and spiritual toll on the individual. These stressors could cause internal patterns of disharmony that were unique to modern life, manifesting in poor physical, emotional and spiritual health. In practice, she found it necessary to modify the application of Chinese Medicine to address these modern conditions.

Today in Colorado, this approach is being adapted to a rural setting. Dr. Rabinowitz has found that in a post 9/11 world, the stressors seen in urban settings are now equally present in the lives of all Americans. The medicine she developed in the City is now applicable everywhere.

One thing that Dr. Rabinowitz noted in her New York City practice, and now sees in Colorado, is that women's reproductive systems were very sensitive to contemporary life stressors. In fact, the most frequently treated conditions at
Turning Point Acupuncture in New York City include menstrual disorders, PMS, cysts and fibroids, endometriosis, and the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes. In response to a growing need, the practice developed a specialization in the treatment of male and female infertility. Acupuncture is also used to support a healthy pregnancy, and to treat any associated symptoms, such as morning sickness and back pain. Historically, acupuncture is known to be a safe and effective way to turn a breech baby and to be helpful at term and in the post-partum period.

Other conditions frequently seen in contemporary stressed clients include: headaches, vertigo, sports and stress injuries, skin problems, immune system disorders, fatigue, chronic pain, nervous system imbalances (especially anxiety, agitation, sleeplessness or depression), asthma, allergies and sinus problems, arthritis, high blood pressure and circulation problems, and digestive disorders including Crohn's Disease, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, diarrhea and constipation.

Modern applications of acupuncture include its use to ameliorate the side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. Acupuncture has also been found to be especially helpful in detoxification from addictive substances such as drugs, alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes, and is a useful adjunct to any weight control program.

At
Turning Point West, Dr. Rabinowitz utilizes acupuncture and Chinese herbs, in addition to diet, exercise, and stress management strategies, to address an individual's immediate health needs, while strengthening and rebalancing the body's underlying energetic forces to achieve harmony and a sense of well-being in today's difficult world.
